Tribeca Film Festival 2023

June 9, 2023

We were recently in NYC at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival Cinema Center and had a fantastic time as the Exclusive Wine Experience provider at several red carpet premiere parties. Across the city, we mingled with celebrities and poured some of our favorite limited-production wines.

From Serafina to Bar Feroce at the Moxy Hotel, each space had its own personality , pairing perfectly with our curated wine list, which we personalized for each event’s venue and guest list.

"The Tribeca Film Festival was an amazing intersection of two of my passions: incredible wine and incredible films. It was so enjoyable to be in a space surrounded by creatives. Great connections were made, great conversations were had, and great wines were poured." - Randi R.

The Moxy’s got Moxie

We began our whirlwind journey around the Big Apple at the Moxy Hotel, celebrating the movie premiere of Eric LaRue.

Eric LaRue Director, Brett Neveu took a break from the festivities to celebrate his excitement, toasting to the premiere’s success with a glass of Authentique Leisure Barrel Aged Pinot Gris.

What better way to kick off the weekend than pouring wines for celebrities Michael Shannon, Alexander Skarsgard, Judy Greer and all of the festival goers.

When we were deciding which wines to pair for the premiere at hidden gem Bar Feroce & The Secret Garden, we chose
Authentique’s 2020 Leisure Barrel Aged Pinot Gris and Ricochet’s 2021 Pinot Noir. Both wines are refined yet playful, bringing a large dose of modern winemaking to their traditional roots. They were the perfect match for the venue’s nod to history with features like a toga-clad Roman statue and glass-enclosed Conservatory.

Sipping with the stars at Common Ground

As things began to pick up, we settled in to Common Ground for several movie premiere parties from Sunday through Monday.

Imagine walking into a room and being greeted by a wall of Opolo sparkling wine, only to turn around and see Heather Graham mingling with co-star Barbara Crampton. What might sound like a dream, we rubbed shoulders with the cast of Suitable Flesh, including Heather Graham, Barbara Crampton, Judah Lewis, Johnathon Schaech, Bruce Davison, J.D Evermore and director, Joe Lynch, and our wines became the star of their own show.

While our wines aren’t based on “The Thing on the Doorstep” by H.P. Lovecraft like Suitable Flesh, each one showcases layered, complex performances and unique personalities. Like individual actors and their director, each wine is crafted specifically by the winemaker. The intentional blend of traditional characteristics with each winery’s modern vision created the perfect parallel to the film’s complexities. Our first night in NYC was just getting started as we poured brick & mortar’s 2021 Anderson Valley Chardonnay, Authentique’s 2017 Keeler Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir, and some of our other favorite traditional yet modern wines.

We continued celebrating independent films with independent wines at the Perpetrator premiere party with actress and icon, Alicia Silverstone along with incredible fashion designer, Christian Siriano, Jennifer Reeder, and cast and friends of the Perpetrator. Just as IndieWire described the film as having “satisfying genre elements, to be sure… [it] cannot be accused of playing it safe”, the Ricochet MRV White Rhone and Authentique Leisure Skin Contact Pinot Gris both push the boundaries of traditional winemaking. At The Miracle Club premiere with actors Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, Maggie Smith, it was a night full of actors and wines who thrive when not playing it safe.

Singing and dancing at Serafina

We wrapped our Tribeca experience celebrating the movie premiere Let The Canary Sing featuring legendary artist, Cyndi Lauper, friends, and talented director, Alison Ellwood

We hosted our final night in NYC at Serafina Italian Restaurant, a uniquely casual-cool favorite for both locals and celebrities alike. Cyndi Lauper herself even gave a private performance as the wine flowed and the people danced the night away.

From personal conversations with the actors of The Miracle Club to dancing through Serafina to Cyndi Lauper’s 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun', this was certainly an experience we’ll never forget.

“Guests at the Cinema Center events had varied interest in wine, but could all agree on one thing - the wines were fantastic. From wine neophytes to wine enthusiasts, I had the pleasure of sharing all the benefits that Sommsation brings to the world of independent wine.”
- Maddy S.
