In 1991, physician Mike Dragutsky was enjoying a glass of wine atop Howell Mountain with friend Randy Dunn (of Dunn Vineyards). Randy mentioned he had a few extra tons of Cabernet Sauvignon available that year, and Mike jumped at the chance to purchase some premium Cab - and Cornerstone Cellars was born. Thirty years later, they are still producing small lot wines, many of which are under 100 cases, and while they do still produce the flagship Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, they also are sourcing fruit from a few other reputable growers in Napa Valley, Sonoma, and Sta. Rita Hills.
The 2019 Cornerstone Cellars Benchlands Cabernet offers rich blackberry, cassis, and mocha aromas with hints of spice and cedar. Concentrated yet elegant, it shows refined tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, polished finish that reflects classic Napa Valley sophistication.
