The Story
In 1997, Ty Caton moved back to his home town of Sonoma. He partnered with his parents to develop their 108 acre property in the renowned Mayacamas Mountain Range. Located adjacent to some world class vineyards and with an array of various soils, elevations, and sun exposures, he knew it was just waiting for vines to be planted. It was a prime location for grape growing and now has its own prestigious appellation: Moon Mountain District. After three long years, Ty Caton Vineyards was established with its first release, the 2000 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The Caton Vineyard is rich with an interesting history having been the site of a winery and vineyards that was founded in the 1920's and ran consistently through prohibition and into the 1940's. The original winery, crush-pad, and main home still stands today. In the 1960's, the land was owned by The Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco and ran as a summer camp.
