The Story

After looking at over 100 different properties, Chris and Ames drove the windy private lane off of Chalk Hill Road where Bell Mountain towered over a few dozen acres of neglected Merlot vines. The beauty of Bell Mountain and the surrounding land spoke to them and Medlock Ames was born. Bell Mountain Vineyard is unlike any other and combines steep undulating hillsides that create microclimates which develop complexity across the Bordeaux varietals planted, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Values

Medlock Ames Winery was formed in 1998 by college best friends, Chris Medlock James and Ames Morison, who set out to produce award-winning wines from Bell Mountain Ranch. Their winemaking philosophy is for each wine in each vintage to be the ultimate expression of their land and of the year inwhich it is grown. The grapes they grow at Bell Mountain Vineyard are full of personality. They believe in reviving elegance in agriculture and strive to maintain a natural balance in their vineyard. Organic farming requires healthy, fertile soil and all of their farming practices revolve around that goal.
From the winery
“Organic farming is really just good farming." — Ames Morison. We remain singularly focused on quality through mindful and organic farming along with a light touch in the cellar. We chose to leave the majority of land in its natural state - reserving it for oaks and wildflowers within a rich ecological community. Preservation of the land is at the core of our values since day one.
