The Story

La Caccia is inspired by an amazing piece of land in a part of Tuscany that has largely remained untouched for 1200 years. Dean Macfarlan, having been involved in the renovation of the neighboring Castello di Casole, fell in love with the surrounding Tuscan hills, culture and people. In 2016, he saw an opportunity to plant the vineyards of what would become La Caccia. The soil on the estate is incredibly unique and composed of clay, limestone, sand and granite - perfect components to create wines of greatness. In 2018, Dean partnered with Michael Kennedy and Marc Gagnon who now oversee all winemaking and vineyard operations. Together Dean, Michael and Marc want to express this site uniquely and purely to produce an authentic, organic wine reflective of the incredible land that surrounds it.

The Values

Organic, thoughtfully produced wine that reflects the unique terroir of Casole d'elsa, all while honoring the vineyards and land.
From the winery
La Caccia translates to “the hunt” in Italian and is another nod to the estate’s history. The hunting blind on the bottle is a drawing of the one situated on the estate that was used to hunt wild boars in the 1800s and early 1900s. Our vineyards neighbor a certified Model Game Preserve of the Castello di Casole and as a result we too, see the native wildlife of these Tuscan hills. In 2017, the entire estate was converted to organic production, from the vines to the olive orchard to even the lavender and rosemary throughout the property. We have loved seeing how this change has brought abundant life back to the site - wildlife, insects and forest.
