2020 Grand Vent Vineyard Pinot Noir Bottle Image

Grand Vent Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

$65.00 / 750 ml
This wine displays brooding dark blackberry, mulchy dampness like a forest floor, and we detect a touch of menthol, perhaps from the eucalyptus groves surrounding the vineyard.
  • Varietal percentages: 100% Pinot Noir
  • Vineyard(s): Grand Vent Vineyard
  • Vineyard Notes: Grand Vent Vineyard is located right in the middle of the Petaluma Gap American Viticulture Area (AVA), a wind gap in the coastal mountain range that funnels cooling breezes and fog east from the Pacific Ocean to San Pablo Bay. The persistent afternoon breeze causes lower grape yields and longer hang-time, enabling flavors and fruit characteristics to fully develop. It's the perfect recipe for elegant, well-balanced wines of character and distinction. Wind and fog are the key to Petaluma Gap AVA, where vineyards are tucked into valleys and scattered on hillsides in perfect harmony with the area's rural open space and rich agricultural history. Drew Buechley eeks out a small crop of Pinot Noir and Syrah in a small vale tucked between rolling hills, with just enough protection from the grand vent, the "great winds" that pummel the barren landscape above.
DANIEL
Spearheaded by award-winning winemaker Daniel Fitzgerald, our family's brand is a celebration of the partnership between vineyard and cellar, winegrower and winemaker. Success in the cellar is only made possible because of this small but amazing cadre of men and women who farm exceptional vineyards. Every harvest, with their deep knowledge, their love of the earth and the sweat of their brow, they deliver grapes capable of becoming remarkable wines.

Wine Details
This bottle has the following characteristics:
Petaluma Gap
Grand Vent is an extraordinary vineyard capable of producing exceptional wines, and this small lot of DANIEL Pinot Noir is a monument to its greatness. Drew Buechley farms this extreme site at the westernmost entrance to the Petaluma Gap AVA. Heavily influenced by a one-two punch from its marine fog layer and relentless winds, this site produces a highly expressive style of Pinot Noir—one that somehow combines grace and delicacy with the nervous energy of the ocean-borne elements of wind and fog.
