Idyllic scenery and beautiful rolling hills in rural Amador County

Andis Wines was created in 2009 by husband and wife team Janis Akuna and Andy Friedlander. Their vineyard, winery, and tasting room are located in the Sierra Foothills AVA, amongst the rolling hills and stunning backdrop provided by the Sierra Mountains. The serene surroundings and slower pace were influential in Janis' decision to leave the Wall Street firm she'd worked at for over 40 years - this was to be a retirement project, after all! She began learning everything she could about winemaking, and obtained her winemaking certificate from UC Davis. She now has help from her hardworking team that includes an on site winemaker, a team of consulting winemakers, and of course, National Sales Manager and Partner Lorenzo Muslia (who will be sharing his knowledge at the event). They grow and produce wine from a large array of grapes, including, but not limited to, Bordeaux, Rhone, and some Italian varieties.

What a fantastic experience. The Sommsation staff was literally sensational, and our sommelier was accessible, knowledgeable and fun. Everyone learned so much while having a great time!

Jessie B.

Fantastic experience! Set up was seamless, wines were excellent, and the Sommelier nailed it with just the right level of info to ensure our group had a great time.

Sam F.

Sommsation helped me bring friends together from 3,000 miles and lifetimes away -- dear friends who otherwise would never meet and certainly would never enjoy drinking wine together.

Scott F.

Wine tasting experiences offer a refreshing break from the ordinary, providing a memorable and meaningful way to celebrate.

Danielle D.

Great! Sent gifts of wine through the marketplace and also participated in Sunday School.

Juliet T.

My experience with Sommsation was truly exceptional! During Cyber Week, I seized the opportunity to explore a variety of wineries through their enticing deals. The wines arrived promptly the following week, impeccably packaged and ready to enrich my cellar for the holiday season. Each bottle I sampled surpassed my expectations, and when shared with friends and family, garnered nothing but praise. With Sommsation, it seems you can't go wrong. Highly recommended!

Joanne T.

This was a great event! I had a lovely time and look forward to another one in the future.

Marie M.

Lovenworth was a delight to speak with and was well-versed in wine geekery, but she promised that sessions are always geared toward the level of knowledge in the room. If you’ve never operated a corkscrew before, she’ll dial down the minutiae and take the audience back to basics.

Andis Wines Saturday Session Wine Set

2023 Sémillon Bill Dillian Vineyard - The Sémillon comes from 40+ year old vines that are planted in the nearby Bill Dillian Vineyard. The location of the vineyard, with its unique microclimate and high elevation, makes it the ideal spot for growing fresh and balanced Sémillon. Andis ferments it entirely in barrels, most of which are neutral, and allows a small percentage of the wine to enjoy skin contact during fermentation. The resulting wine is energetic and lively, with notes of dried apple, Meyer lemon, honeysuckle, and chamomile.

2022 Cabernet Franc - The Cabernet Franc is sourced from vineyards that are planted on volcanic soils and sit above 3000 feet. The elevation helps ensure a long growing season and that the grapes develop intense fruit concentration. The 2022 vintage is complex, layered, and beautiful, with notes of red raspberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, tobacco, and just a hint of dried herbs.

Andis Wines cannot ship to the following 9 states: AR, DE, MI, MS, ND, NH, RI, UT, WV.

More about Andis WinesSierra Foothills, California

The Sierra Foothills AVA was created in 1987, and it runs for about 170 miles along part of the Sierra Mountains. Wine has been produced here since the 1850's, and today is home to over 280 wineries. Although the region is a mere two hours from more well known regions like Napa and Sonoma, it couldn't be more different. The area is full of independent producers - family owned wineries - who enjoy the quieter lifestyle the rural setting provides. They grow many, many varieties across the region, including many grapes that most other Californian winemakers would consider to be obscure. Andis Wines and Painted Fields Wines, their second label, take advantage of the diversity in the viticulture, making wine from not only the more traditional grapes you typically find in California, but also from unique grapes like Fiano, Colombard, Arinto, Barbera, and Schioppettino.
