Ignite, Engage, Inspire

Wine and art share many synergies and commonalities in the way they present themselves, their unique points of view, and engage our minds (and palates) in new and exciting ways - both communally and individually. To showcase these parallels, Sommsation took over Art Basel 2022 to share our latest on-site wine tasting experiences - amplified by the incredible artists, patrons, and atmospheres that surrounded our immersive tasting experiences.

“We are so thrilled to be partnering at Art Basel with artists and organizations that share our values of conservation, sustainability and excellence,” says Danielle Diliberti, CEO of Sommsation. “We look forward to bringing the Sommsation experience to Miami in support and celebration of these great causes.”

The opportunity to share in these transformative exhibits with the Art Basel 2022 community has been remarkable. As the exhibits continue in Miami, we wanted to share our real time updates and recaps with our Sommsation community to expand the experiences beyond the MIA.

A toast to 20 years of Art Basel, Miami Beach.

Sommsation x @rt by Chimps

Curated by renowned Artist, Karen Bystedt, @rt by chimps showcased a selection of original painted canvases created by Chimpanzee artists. The purchase of each piece directly supported the Save the Chimps Sanctuary.

Sommsation's featured wines for this tasting included vintages from Flaneur Wines, Sleight of Hand Cellars and Halter Ranch Vineyards. These wines and more are available for purchase through our website.

Our Lead Sommelier, Elyse Lovenworth suggests Halter Ranch's 2021 Picpoul Blanc. “Most people are not familiar with this traditional white wine, native to Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. Our winery partner, Halter Ranch, has a few acres of Picpoul planted on their estate vineyard in Paso Robles, CA. It's the perfect wine for hot Miami nights and it was really fun introducing it to a new audience."

Sommsation x Olivia Steele

Sommsation’s tasting experience showcased wines from our partner, Alexana Winery, located in Willamette Valley, Oregon.

On the menu, Alexana’s 2019 Terrior Series Pinot Gris and 2020 Terroir Series Pinot Noir. Hosted at the magical Nautilus by Arlo Hotels, South Beach - attendees of the event learned about the terroir of Alexana through their incredible wines, in the glow of the latest installation by Olivia Steele. This piece featured a signature Steele “truthism”, submerged in an aquatic landscape.

Sommsation x AIRIE Summit

AIRIE’s inaugural, sold out Miami Art Week event at the Carter Project Miami featured an immersive installation that transported attendees into the Everglades - using art as a driver for conversations of change and making the outdoors a space of belonging for all.

Hosted in partnership with the Women's Photographers International Archive and Friends of the Everglades, this event highlighted artists sharing and discussing topics from identity, climate activism, to ecological futures through their works.

Wines from our partners Flaneur Wines, Sleight of Hand Cellars, Halter Ranch Vineyards, and Tinto Amorio were featured, graciously shared by our Sommeliers, Elyse and Jamie.

“The 2021 Jajaja Glou Glou from Tinto Amorio was a fun favorite of the event - organic and juicy, with flavors of an exotic cola with berry spice - it really felt connected to the nature of the everglades surrounding our tasting table.. beautifully wild”, said Lovenworth.

Sommsation x Olivia Steele & Blcksmth

Sommsation presented Olivia Steele & Blcksmth's reveal of their special, surprise collaboration at the Carter Project, Miami. Guests were the first to see this pop-up art installation at the viewing party, hosted through a one-of-a-kind Sommsation wine experience.

“Easy breezy, ever so effervescent rose from Halter Ranch paired perfectly with the afternoon sun. It complimented the laid back style of the event,” said Lovenworth.

Sommsation x African Chop House

Shining a light on cultural moments and connecting communities through authentic experiences & conversations that highlight the Diaspora’s creators, leaders and entrepreneurs that are paving the way across the cultural & entertainment landscape.

“We featured a stunning variety of wines from California, Oregon and Washington State. We aimed to have something for everyone with the style and types of wine,” Lovenworth notes. “Offering both familiar favorites and more esoteric wines for people looking to try something new. Also keeping in mind the dinner menu which highlighted traditional Ghanaian cuisine, we wanted to make sure the wines not only complimented but enhanced the meal.”
