The Story

C.L. Butaud was founded by husband and wife Randy and Brooke Hester. Their winemaking journey began in 2006 in Napa Valley, where the Hesters set out on a 10-year path of training, education and research under the world's best winemakers and mentors. Their first Texas harvest took place in 2014 before the couple moved to Austin, Texas in 2017. C.L. Butaud is an homage to Randy's great grandfather, named Clet Louis Butaud, who was known as Frenchy.

The Values

Randy Hester uses a minimalist and experimental approach to winemaking, paying respect to the centuries of winemaking, while backing up his artistic instinct with the empirical data of fermentation science.
From the winery
I started making wines because I wanted to create this thing that enhances good times and brings so many people so much joy. Making wine could be my little contribution to the world. I make wine from my heart; that's the essence of why I do what I do. - Randy Hester, Winemaker
