The Story

The Amista founders' journey into wine has been all about friends. They made their first wine in 1994, but said good-bye to their first vineyard in Saratoga, CA and set eyes on a beautiful property in Dry Creek Valley in 1999. In 2004 they officially established Amista Vineyards, Inc. Then in 2007 they opened the Amista Vineyards tasting room surrounded by estate Morningsong Vineyards planted to Chardonnay and Syrah. Today, they have a well established portfolio of Sparkling wines (launched in 2011), Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah.

The Values

Their 20-acre estate vineyard — they call it Morningsong Vineyards — is on the valley floor in the heart of Dry Creek Valley. When they don't grow their own, they acquire grapes from their neighbors — in Dry Creek Valley and Rockpile. They want to be able to walk the vineyards, taste the fruit and have a personal relationship with the people who grow the grapes.
From the winery
Amista, roughly translated, means "making friends" in Spanish. We chose it for three reasons. First, our journey into wine has been all about friends. Second, we chose a Spanish name for our winery in honor of those who originally settled this area. And third, we chose it simply because it begins with an 'A', putting it at the top of every list!
